International Affective Picture System

Affective ratings of pictures and instruction manual

The International Affective Picture System (IAPS) is being developed to provide ratings of affect for a large set of emotionally-evocative, internationally-accessible, color photographs that includes contents across a wide range of semantic categories. The IAPS (pronounced EYE-APS), along with the International Affective Digitized Sound system (IADS), the Affective Norms for English Words (ANEW), as well as other collections of affective stimuli, are being developed and distributed by the NIMH Center for Emotion and Attention (CSEA) at the University of Florida in order to provide standardized materials that are available to researchers in the study of emotion and attention.

The Center for Vital Longevity Face Database

The Center for Vital Longevity Face Database (the University of Texas at Dallas)

Data set was produced by Meredith Minear and Denise Park (2004) in the University of Michigan.
As the name of data set, it consists of faces pictures. One important feature of the set is that set has emotional and neutral face pictures of 575 individual’s ranging18-93. So from this perspective, data can be also called a lifespan picture set. To be more representative of age groups across the lifespan, Authors had special emphasis on recruiting older adults. Therefore, database has faces of 218 adults with ages ranging from 18 to 29 years, 76 adults with ages ranging from 30 to 49 years, 123 adults with ages from 50 to 69 years, and 158 adults with ages from 70 to older. Database may be shared by Authors for research purpose and can be requested and downloaded from the links at below.

Face Photo Set For Different Level Of Attractıveness

The Face Photo Set is prepared according to different level of attractiveness, is developed by Ozlem ERTAN’s masters thesis* (Dissertation Advisor: Banu CANGOZ). Photos are choosen in young male and female university students sample. All photos are with neutral expression. To reach the photos at different levels of attractiveness, left symmetrical faces were created by taking mirror image of the original images using Adobe Photoshop CC. In the photo set, there are 54 black-white photos which are average and attractive (13 male and 13 female). Neutrality and attractiveness ratings of the photos were evaluated by 34 female and 33 male volunteers.
